It’s one of the most beautiful phenomena when two people are simultaneously on different paths, and their lives overlap to result in something magical. Such a thing happened at our store not too long ago, and we wanted to share this custom pendant story with you.
Path 1 – Our CAD designer, Serena, went on vacation. She didn’t travel to Egypt, but she saw things that got her deeply interested in Egyptian culture. It’s funny how things stick with you in ways you don’t even realize, and in this case, benefitted her creativity and work with custom design.
Path 2 – A longtime customer was on the hunt for a loose gemstone to go with her previously purchased, and quite rare, bi-color white and blue Zircon. We hosted a private gem showing for her and after contemplating many options, her mission was accomplished. She landed on a rich toned yellow Hessonite Garnet. Now, what to do with them?
Serena loves a good challenge. She began sketching and arranging the gems in different layouts. A shield-shaped blue and a circular orange seemed at odds, until she saw water and the sun. And so began her research. Below are the details she uncovered and presented to our customer for a custom pendant. She fell in love with the immense amount of thought, meaning and personalization.

-
Metal: White gold was chosen to make the gems pop.
-
Shape: This “ticket” shape is no accident. Egyptians believed this to be admittance into the afterlife.
-
Wings: These represent the Egyptian sun God, and creator God, Ra. He was often pictured with falcon wings and always with 3 rows of feathers. These also mean protection.
-
Rope: This discrete detail around the border of the design symbolizes eternity.
-
Bezel: The 18K gold bezel around the garnet was added to enhance the gems magnificent color and reiterate the power of the sun.
-
Name: Our customers’ last name was engraved on the back in hieroglyphics as a surprise. Serena consulted 5 experts on hieroglyphics to ensure the name was done correctly. The last name as a mark of one’s status was a belief of Egyptians as well.

This is truly one of the most unique pieces we have had the pleasure of making. The genuine care along with the ability to CAD the design for the customer to see, resulted in a finished product like no other.
