Understanding Diamond Color – Not to be confused with Natural Fancy Color Diamonds.
Diamond color grades are critical in determining a diamond’s value and quality. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) developed a standardized color grading scale that ranges from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow or brown). Diamonds graded D through F are considered colorless, offering the highest brilliance and value. G through J diamonds are nearly colorless, with slight traces of color that are difficult to detect with the naked eye. K through M diamonds have a faint yellow tint, becoming more noticeable as you move down the scale. Beyond M, diamonds show increasingly noticeable color, which can impact their rarity and desirability. Each grade can affect the diamond’s rarity and value, making color grading an essential aspect of the gemological assessment.
It’s all about slight variations, personal preference, and budget. At Brown Goldsmiths, understanding diamond color and choosing the right diamond for you are made easy.
