Ethiopian opal stud earrings. Round cut 6mm opals are bezel set into 14K yellow gold with post and friction nut backs. The total weight is 1.15 carats.
Because opal has the colors of other gems, the Romans thought it was the most precious and powerful of all. The Bedouins believed that they contained lightning and fell from the sky during thunderstorms. So when Australia’s mines began to produce opals commercially in the 1890s, it quickly became the primary source for these gems.
